Guide to sourcing and tagging images
Overview
I've decided to write down the process I use for tagging images, in the hopes that it helps out anyone who doesn't know where to start when tagging. I do prioritize tagging my own uploads, so if you're looking to help tag images that you didn't upload, start with the ones from "tagme -editor:tbw" first.

Step 0 - Prep work
This is only something you need to do once, but it will give you a good starting point for tagging even if no source comes up in your searching. Look at this thread http://censored.booru.org/index....rum&s=view&id=28, and add some tags to your accounts My Tags section. You will always have to tag the censor related tags manually, so having this checklist in place helps a lot.

Step 1 - Danbooru tagging script
The first step I always do when tagging images is to run this script and see if it will find the right tags from Danbooru. Installing the script is straightfoward, you first will need to install a userscript extension for your browser (the one I've been using is called Tampermonkey), which allows you to run custom javascript code on webpages. Then you will need to paste in the script from the latest pastebin in this thread http://censored.booru.org/index.php?page=forum&s=view&id=3. It also has more details on userscripts and the particular script that copies tags.

Step 2 - Iqdb and Gelbooru
If the script doesn't find the right image, then either 1. the image isn't on Danbooru, or 2. the image is too heavily edited to reverse search with.

For the first case, you can reverse image search with iqdb to see if another booru has the image. The best way is to use this extension https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/iqdb-context/nmahlbngglnabceabpgifacibgoogjcb for google chrome, it will add "search on iqdb" to the context menu when you right click on an image. You can also go to https://iqdb.org/ and copy the image's url into the search box. You are hoping that Gelbooru will have the image, its tags are very similar to Danbooru's, and you don't need an account to copy the tags. You can find the tags to copy at the bottom of the left side of the page under Tag History. Just make sure to add the prefixes for here like artist:, character:, and series:. If iqdb finds the image on another image board, be aware that sankaku channel uses some very different tags than dan/gelbooru. so you'll mostly be grabbing artist/character/series from there. The remaining image boards don't see many tags, so you'll still have to tag manually if they are there.

If you end up with the second case, you can't do much more unless you happen to have the original to search with. (I keep the originals of my edits for this very reason)

Step 3 Saucenao and Pixiv
If iqdb couldn't find it, send it to Saucenao, another reverse image search, with the link iqdb has for you. Then main reason to do this is to search on Pixiv, a popular website for Japanese artists to upload their works. You will need to have a Pixiv account to tell them you're old enough to view explicit material. The best way to get the tag for the artist is to copy their profile link into Danbooru's artist search here https://danbooru.donmai.us/artists. I've also found a userscript that will do that for you and have the tag already on the pixiv page here https://github.com/bipface/userscripts/blob/master/pixiv-danbooru-artist-lookup.user.js. If the artist doesn't have a Danbooru tag, then its up to you how to tag it. Characters and series are often tagged in the Pixiv tags, but they are in Japanese and Google Translate doesn't always work so well. You can try cross referencing the Pixiv tag wikis with Danbooru, but it's fine to stop there and leave character_request instead.

Step 4 Google Images
If you still don't have a source, iqdb can also send your search to Google Image search. Sometimes it will work out and find your image on a site that sources it well, instead of simply reposting it.

Step 5 Manual Tagging
Even if you did not find the source, you can still add tags from what you see in the image. Further reading for this can be found in the Danbooru wiki section. Just keep in mind that I'm much more relaxed than Danbooru's strict guidelines, and I hardly ever link the source here because its too much work. Use these links mainly if you're stuck on how to tag what you see.

Reviewing this now, the Pixiv userscript I linked to get the artist tags stopped working. I've been using this one instead https://github.com/evazion/translate-pixiv-tags. It also helps translate the other pixiv tags into danbooru tags too.
